PIXEL by Mattia Fornari, Piacenza
Design awarded for the coherent, creative and elegant use of a digital pixel matrix transferred in such an irregular way on the veneer with the technique of inlay and cropping. The final rich and sophisticated result by using the different essences with light chromatic variations confers to the surfaces an unexpected three-dimensional vibration.
PRIVÉE by Annamaria Seminara and Maria Francesca Cicirielli, Como
A simple geometrical grid with progressive horizontal and vertical divisions creates an elegant rhythmic variation on the surface by passing then from positive to negative through the use of only two essences composed through the inlay in the chiaroscuro game.
MUGR by Vittorio Pannozzo, Fondi (LT)
Starting from Munari conception according to which the hexagonal shape is created by the compression of the cylindrical shape in a limited space, the design faces this limited space as the veneer surface by transforming it into a modulation of plastically distorted geometric elements in such a way to create an extraordinary three-dimensionality illusion.
SYSMA by Stefano Bertolini of the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera
Geometric configurations, fruit of the graphic transposition of precise rhythmic mathematical series, create surfaces with different vibration degrees, where the inlay technique and the preciousness of the two wood essences are emphasized. The composition is enriched thanks to the possible variants in combination with the veneers obtained.
BREEZE by Ezgi Vural of the Marangoni Institute Milan
Inspired by the apparently irregular and casual textures generated by the movements of the sands battered by the wind, the design transforms the sinuous lines of profile and shadow of the dunes into a pattern with inlay of naturalistic elegance although of complex construction, by enhancing the technology of inlay and its decorative potentialities.
LONDON FOG by Aigherim Urazbayeva of Milan Polytechnic
A simple orthogonal tiling with a striped decoration and a rhythmic contrast hatching becomes a refined graphic instrument to create a two-dimensional texture able to propose in a refined way wood essences of opposite shades and colours.
LINE IS MORE by Mattia Fornari, Piacenza
Starting from the quote of the minimal writings of the planned art by Sol Lewitt, the design, through an additive procedure applied on square veneers, reveals the progressive complexity of textures created by overlapping series of linear millings arranged with constant rotations. Simple procedure exalting the surface wood qualities.
BREEZE by Alessandro Sutto, Lignano Sabbiadoro (UD)
Two wood surfaces in two wood essences of opposite shades. Cropped and inlaid, they are alternated into “one another” through a drawing of irregular lines able to reveal a surprising sense of three-dimensionality typical of the curves of level of a map and also of the folds of a textile surface.
CICATRICE (SCAR) by Gabriele Mundula, Sirtori (LC)
The repeatability of the weft carried out on FSC certified panels of the Eucalyptus family, allows carrying out the large surfaces of the contract spaces, symbolically enriched with the message of the old Japanese tradition of “Kintsugi”: the art, thanks to the scars, not to hide but to highlight “damage” with sophistication.
PRIVÉE by Annamaria Seminara and Maria Francesca Cicirielli, Como
An artwork focused on the research for a great visual impact and at the same time for extreme refinement inspired by a project of the father of the typographic and graphic art, the Swiss Wolfgang Weingart. Design enhanced by the innovative use of wood with a suggestive effect of abstraction and immateriality.
SUPERWOOD by Rebecca Agnoletti, Arianna Marchesani and Chiara Beretta, Florence
Inspired by a concept of a design of the seventies and a pop iconography making this boiserie unique and timeless, this design was surely intriguing to a brand as Driade. An innovative overlapping idea with the motivated use of colours and shapes. Almost a work of art, a picture recalling the most classical geometric shapes in a contemporary dimension.
PRINT REVERB by Victoria Molteni, Cantù (CO)
For the contemporaneity, the elegance of the design in its whole and the expressive intensity of the bas-relief on wood.
VIOLIN CONCERT by Matteo Buffoli and Matteo Gargioni, Milan
For the ingenuity of the composition and for the accurate and joyful combination of wood colours, notes and original divisions revealing a deep interest for the expressive wood power.
PROSPETTIVE SINUOSE (SINUOUS PERSPECTIVES) by Noemi Verdoliva, Gragnano (NA)
For having captured the essence of TABU multilaminar veneers, both in the carefully thought-out and described composition technology and in the freedom of the chromatic matching.
QUERCUS PERPETUA by Patrizio Mozzicafreddo, Murlo (SI)
Work focused on a cautious selection of the wood species and on its original reinterpretation. The oaks, in this case coming from FSC certified forests are the symbol of strength, but also of durability, perpetuating the species.
CROMIA by Simone Luigi Sabatti, Verona
An inspiration element and a chromatic choice helping reinterpret in positive key the recent lockdown period, where great attention has been aimed at the exclusive choice of veneers coming from forests managed in responsible manner, fragile habitats whose reduction is among the pandemic causes.
LIFETIME VENTURE by Owen Pradipta of the Marangoni Institute Milan
A square geometric matrix is developed on a vertical line according to an almost fractal progression. The effect of progressive dilatation confers to texture a cylindrical look and a spatial quality of remarkable charm, able to characterize large surfaces on which the weft is developed with great elegance in a negative-positive contrast.
BODY MOVEMENT by Johans Prelle Melly and Gabriele Giusto Academy of Fine Arts of the Brera of Milan
For the refined conceptual operation transforming a sinuous movement of a body into a sequence of geometric lines creating a three-dimensional “Groovy” surface changing according to the different lights affecting it.
ONDA (Wave) by Andrea Parise of Fine Arts of the Brera of Milan
The development of the electromagnetic waves, at the root of the design inspiration, with their characteristic sinusoidal movement recreated through two different alternating shades and thicknesses, allows coating and enhancing with rhythm and particular elegance the large surfaces of the spaces destined to the contract.
PUNCTUM by Nina Viaggio and Simona D’Amato of Fine Arts of the Brera of Milan
For the chromatic composition revealing deep knowledge of the natural dyed wood and well interpreting the sense of contemporaneity, between the research for perfection and the error opening new possibilities.
PARK OF RINGS by Laura Sonzogni and Luca Regonesi of the IED Institute and the Fine Arts of the Brera of Milan
The combination of the texture inspired by the trunks and the prudent choice of only FSC certified veneers offer an ideal coupling to make us reflect on the raw material used and on its origin from forests managed in responsible manner. The chromatic variations, besides, allow us to bring a little bit of wood into each room of our house or our office.
AFRICA by Nicola Ferla of the Fine Arts of the Brera of Milan
Combination of an appealing chromatic and stylistic choice representing a rich but often forgotten continent stripped of its riches, with a certified wood species that is emblem of the best European and North-American forest production. An ideal combination with a deep interdependence message.
